Here’s the free Claddagh pattern in pdf format. It has been corrected for the errors as noted on Facebook for the reading the chart ‘Right to Left’ (It was originally incorrectly written to read the chart left to right)

knit potholder claddagh – pattern2

If there needs corrections, please comment here, on Knitting Daily or on Ravelry, so I get to see it.  I have finally signed into facebook and twitter, but I don’t really know how those sites work yet.

If anyone uses this pattern and would like to share a photo(s) of their potholder, I would more than happy to do so here on this site or maybe go back and post on Knitting Daily’s Readers Photos or on Ravelry.  I think it would be fun, helpful and interesting to see what other color combos this Claddagh pattern is made with.

Here’s the back ground story on why I created this design,  I didn’t have this blog/website when I was first trying to share the pattern.  So here’s part of what I posted on Knitting Daily:

Well since my sweetie ended up with my ‘practice’ double knit potholder (the cat one) and all it’s mistakes, I decided to make him another.   He’s a great cook, is part Irish, very romantic and suggested a Claddagh ring for me for me when we first started dating so I am hoping he’ll like this Claddagh design on a potholder as a Valentine’s present.

You can read about Claddagh rings on the web, but basically the heart represents love, hands-friendship and the crown-loyalty and I like to think the arms wrapping around as a big hug.

Since it is Valentine’s Day and love is in the air, I thought I would try to share my pattern.  It’s mostly just the charts with a tad of instructions, but probably not enough if you have never double knitted.  I did attach the You-tube videos I watched to learn how to double knit under the rooster potholder discussions section.

I like to create charts for both front and back sides to make it easier on my brain while knitting…and it helps me make fewer mistakes.
